Jason Tankersley, a Tucson native, is the CEO of the Fairfax Companies, a leader in sustainability in the construction waste industry. He graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Regional Development/Business and Commerce. Fairfax owns and operates three Tucson facilities: The Speedway Recycling and Landfill Facility, The Ina Road Land Reclamation Facility, and The Drexel Road Land Reclamation Facility. Each facility dedicated to reclaiming land and recycling construction, single stream, and landscape wastes.
While in high School, Tankersley often worked in his family's landfill business learning what it takes to operate a solid waste recycling business from the ground up. Tankersley hopes the community will one day be able to go back to its old landfills and pull out what's valuable for reuse. He is dedicated to making the world a better place. That's why Jason Tankersley, spends much of his time thinking about ways to reuse the waste he gets.
Speaking to members of the Southern Arizona Home Builders Association's Green Building Council, Tankersley said finding ways to profitably reuse waste has become a way of life for his business. Whether it's converting discarded wood scraps and shrink wrap into fuel pellets or turning landscaping debris into oil, he said they're exploring options.
Tankersley is a board member of Tucson Clean And Beautiful, an advisory board member to SAHBA green building council, on the board of the Southern Arizona Green Chamber of Commerce, a member of the US Green Building Council, a member of the Construction and Demolition Recycling Association (CMRA), The Social Venture Network, the Tucson Zoological Society, The Tucson Metro Chamber, and is a supporter of the "Mrs. Green Goes Mainstream" Radio Talk Show.
